Description
tmottbg18 Store English translation of classic Yiddish novel, signed and dated by Esther Kreitman (1891-1954). The older sister of famed Yiddish writers Israel Joshua Singer and Isaac Bashevis Singer, Kreitman was an accomplished writer in her own right, with many of her works translated into numerous languages after her death. This edition, published by W. G. and Foyle Ltd. of London in 1946 (translated from the original Yiddish edition of 1936), is extremely scarce. Kreitman's blue fountain pen signature with date and location appears on the front endpaper, making this perhaps the only signed copy still in existence. The book itself is in good condition with a solid binding and mostly clean boards. There is a crack along the spine visible behind the back endpaper and several of the pages have been folded and left to avoid cracking. The pages are yellowed but still quite clean and there is noticable edge wear. Gilt lettering appears on both the front cover and along the spine and there is no dustjacket. We will consider shipping this item internationally but please contact us first if you are outside of the United States. All serious offers will be considered.
